Kid Drug Toll

MORE than 250 schoolkids were treated last year for using Class A drugs, a report revealed yesterday.Ninety-four children aged 15 and under needed help for heroin use including six aged just TWELVE. Another 160 were treated for cocaine use, 162 for using ecstasy and 78 for amphetamines. But 4,876 under-16s got into trouble with cannabis, 2,961 with alcohol and 238 with solvents, National Treatment Agency figures showed. Chief executive Paul Hayes said: "Most young people receiving help for alcohol problems are not alcoholics, nor are they addicted. "Any treatment they receive is provided at home rather than sendŽing them away to residential rehab."Record numbers of young peo ple with substance abuse problems are now getting help to prevent them becoming addicts."
